Where it all began: Becoming a Life Coach

As early as I can remember, my parents were deeply involved in the community. My father would open our doors to people who needed a place to stay, never turning anyone away just because they couldn’t afford it.

There was one particular man who rented a room with us for over 30 years. He would pay his rent every Friday, but by Monday he would often come back to my father and quietly explain that he was short of money to get to work. Without hesitation, no questions, no judgment, my father would simply give him the rent back. No fuss, no arguments—just quiet understanding.

My mum, in her own way, provided meals, food parcels, and a safe, non-judgmental space for women who needed someone to really listen.

That was the environment I grew up in—and even then, it was shaping who I would become.

Our home wasn’t just a home; it was a place where people arrived carrying heavy stories and, somehow, left feeling a little lighter.

I saw what it meant to be heard without interruption, without being fixed, and without being judged. That stayed with me. It showed me that sometimes the most powerful thing you can give someone isn’t advice—it’s your presence.

As I got older, I realised I had naturally stepped into that same role.

People would open up to me—friends, colleagues, even people I barely knew.

Conversations would go deeper than expected, and I found myself sitting with people in their most vulnerable moments.

I didn’t always have answers, but I could listen. And more importantly, I wanted to listen.

That pull towards people, towards understanding and supporting them, only grew stronger.

I became more intentional about my own growth, learning about mindset, emotional wellbeing, and how our experiences shape the way we see ourselves and the world.

What once felt natural began to feel purposeful.

Now, when I look back, it all makes sense.

The home I grew up in, the people who passed through it, the quiet lessons I absorbed—they were all preparing me for this path. With my professional, social, educational and personal experience, I haven’t just become a life coach—I have become that safe space, that steady presence, and that listening ear for others, just as my parents once were.
